Dry skin and very dry skin has a tendency to age more rapidly than oily or combination skin. Wrinkles, especially, appear more quickly and in greater numbers. Skin sagging however is less evident with very dry skin than with oily skin, for example.
Weakening of the skin barrier
It is mainly thanks to maintaining a good hydration that the epidermis is fit to play its role as a skin barrier. But, with time, this capability of the epidermis to retain water molecules tends to weaken. For very dry skin, which already has a weakness in this respect, the consequences of ageing are even greater.
For women, the reduction in oestrogen levels after the menopause causes the thinning of the skin and its drying out. Less hydrated, the skin marks more easily. Wrinkles appear and dig in.
To prevent the effects of time and the appearance of wrinkles, you must give special attention and nourishing products to very dry skin.
